Macs' Guide to Safe Car Care

If you're new to detailing or car care in general, it can be daunting!

We've created a quick guide here for those new to detailing, or confused by conflicting information online.

If you have any questions, please contact us or speak to our team in store!

A crucial first step - before contact washing your paint, applying a product to release & lift dirt away from the surface is crucial. Especially in winter!

We also recommend adding product to your wheels at this stage to avoid any contamination later on in the process.

Follow up both pre-wash and wheels with a thorough rinse and you're ready for the next stage!

Using two buckets is an absolute must!

One to act as rinse water for your mitt after contact with the paint, the other for fresh suds!

Wash the whole car, top to bottom and panel by panel, rinsing the mitt each time.

Safely drying your car can be done with a high-quality drying towel, either on its own or aided by a spray sealant as a drying aid.

This method gives you a little more protection against introducing any scratches but also adds a nice boost of protection.

Another method is air-drying - a completely contact-free way to dry your car. As a bonus it also removes any lingering water from door shuts, wheels and other hard to reach places.

Today's detailers are swamped with choice when it comes to protecting your paint!

Waxes, polymer sealants, ceramic coatings, hybrids, spray on sealant - the list goes on.

There really isn't a "best" product - it really depends on what's best for you and your level of maintenance.

For keen detailers and dedicated weekend warriors, we'd always recommend a 1-2 year ceramic coating as a base. Leaving you some room to experiment with other supporting products!

For those who just want a super easy level of protection in between monthly washes, we'd suggest a spray on sealant, purely for ease of use.
